IMPROVEMENT IN FRE-ARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,627, dated April 23, 1878; application filed February 13, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, William H. Bliss, of Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pistols, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to unite the plate and stud of a pistol in one solid piece, whereas before my invention they have been in two or more pieces.
Figure 1 denotes the pistol, without plate or stud. Fig. 2 denotes pistol, with plate or stud. Fig. 3 denotes plate and stud combined when out of pistol.
The advantages of my invention are, first, you can readily set lock D, so as to fit it to its parts before the stud and plate A. are put in place; second, with my invention, when plate and stud A are placed in pistol, they are firmly fixed, leaving a smooth surface out side, and not liable to work out, as heretofore when they are in two parts or more.
I am aware that it is not new to close a circular opening in side of the pistol by a disk perforated for a screw, which secures it and serves as hammer-pivot. To remove this necessitates two operations, and leaves in sight an objectionable screw-head. I am aware also that a hinged cover has been used for the works.
I claim as my invention—
A circular lock-plate for pistols having the screw-bolt which carries the hammer permanently attached to the center thereof, and having an outside slot or perforation for the application of the screw-driver, all substantially as shown.
