LETTERS PATENT to William Edward Newton, of the Office for Patents, 66, Chancery Lane, in the County of Middlesex, Civil Engineer, for the Invention of “ Improvements in Gun Stocks.”—■ A communication from abroad by Charles Richard Alsop, of Middleton, State of Connecticut, and Joseph Wright Alsop and Henry Chauncey, junior, both of New York, all in the United States of America.

PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION left by the said William Edward Newton at the Office of the Commissioners of Patents, with his Petition, on the 11th June 1861,
I, William Edward Newton, of the Office for Patents, 66, Chancery Lane, in the County of Middlesex, Civil Engineer, do hereby declare the nature of the said Invention for “ Improvements in Gun Stocks,” to be as follows:— This Invention of improvements in gun stocks consists in a novel construction of the stocks of fire-arms intended to be fired from the shoulder, whereby a firmer grasp is obtained for the right hand in firing, and the piece fs enabled t
