IMPROVEMENT IN TOY-REVOLVERS AND FIRE-CRACKER HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,377, dated May 28, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Anthony M. Smith, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented and made a Toy-Revolver and Fire-Cracker Holder; and the following is declared to be a full and correct description of the same.

This toy is of the general shape and outline of a revolver, and it may be used for exploding caps and for holding fire-crackers while being let off. The barrel and stock are made in two pieces or castings and connected together by screws. A cylinder with nipples upon it is placed between the barrel and the handle, and is revolved by the fingers to bring a nipple in line with the hammer, and this cylinder is held in position by a spring-bolt projecting from the rear of the barrel. The front of the barrel is adapted to receive a fire-cracker. The nipple and also the hammer are made with beveled or wedge-shaped ends to insure the explosion of the cap, and the hammer is surrounded by a hood to prevent pieces of the cap flying off the nipple and causing personal injury. This hood being separated allows the Wedge-ended hammer to be finished up with facility.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of the toy revolver with one of its sides removed. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same; and Fig. 3 is a front view of the nipple-cylinder.

a represents the barrel, b the frame, and c the handle of the revolver, made in two pieces or castings; and the barrel and frame are divided longitudinally at the vertical central line. The two parts are connected to each other by the screws 2 3. The barrel a is divided transversely into two cavities, c d, by the plates 12 13, which are cast with one of the halves of the barrel, and the cavity c may be used for holding fire-crackers while being exploded. d’ is a cylinder, which can be revolved upon the axis e, and this cylinder is provided with nipples e’ to receive percussion caps. This cylinder is to be turned by the hand, and the projecting end of a spring-bolt, i, Within the part d of the barrel a, enters one of the cavities f in the end of said cylinder d’, and keeps the same in the correct position for a nipple to be struck by the hammer h. The nipples e’ are beveled or wedge-shaped, as is also the hammer h; but the bevel of the latter is at right angles to that of the nipple being struck, so as to insure the cap being exploded by the edges of the hammer and nipple coming in contact. l is a hood surrounding the head of the hammer to prevent pieces of the cap flying off, at the risk of injury to the person holding the revolver; and this hood is to be a cylinder of sheet metal, soldered or otherwise secured to the hammer. The hammer h is upon a fulcrum, n, and the trigger n upon a fulcrum, p, and the latter is provided with a sear, v, to hold the hammer cocked. q is a Spring to operate said hammer and trigger.

I claim as my invention—

1. The toy-pistol having a cavity at the front end of the barrel and a sliding spring bolt or detent in the rear end of the barrel, combined with the cylinder d’ having cavities f for the end of the spring-bolt, and nipples e for caps, the parts being constructed substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.

2. The toy-pistol, made with a wedge-ended hammer and a separate hood surrounding and attached to the hammer, substantially as specified.
